Favorite Comic Book Characters (Let's Blow the US Border, Please)
Comic Books don't only exist in the US, you know :)

- The Maxx (this will be my only US comic book character for now... I love that whole Pangea subworld he goes to, and the girl he loves in his loser mind is completely deformed and nerdy like a lot of the girls in the comics I am going to list afterwards... )
- Léonard, da Vinci that is. Super funny Belgian Comic, where the Disciple, Basil, *always* gets abused in one way or another. Incidentally, a fun survey of the incredible list of inventions LdV created over time. Fun and easy to read. The latest issue (#40) is coming out in December !
- Kanéda (& Tetsuo) from Akira. The ultra bloody manga with absolutely insane motorcycles chases, mutating midgets that age too fast, telekinesis, and post-apocalyptic Tokyo. This stuff is crazy.
- Tintin & Milou - Innocent but efficient ageless Belgian reporter and his resourceful dog. His friends are quirky and usefully more in the way than helpful. Hergé, the artist, explored semi-documentarian topics, having Tintin travel around the world solving mysteries. He even walked on the moon ! Awesome stuff from when I was a kid, and a definite collector series.
- Piccolo, the creepy green alien ("Namekseijin") from Dragon Ball. I know, this particular series has been completely destroyed over the years, but man when I was a kid this was the real deal. This guy didn't mess around. He'd rip people in half, annihilate them with fireballs coming out of his mouth, or strangle them with him ever extending arms. Then he turned into a nice guy, but you could never really read the guy.
- Gaston LaGaffe. My first encounter with office humor. This guy is strange as it gets, and lazy, too. Super funny, crazy car, a seagull pet, strange instruments in his attic, run ins with the law. Very cool read.
- Anything by this guy !
- Spirou & Fantasio, early 90's version. I also love the humor in Petit Spirou, but this was fun spy stories with crazy inventions to boot. Easy to read, and always finished too fast.
- Lucky Luke and Jolly Rancher, the belgian cowboy that always caught the bad guys. This too was fun to read, and the Daltons (the bad guys) were stupid and fun to watch get caught. This is one character I spent hours drawing as a kid.
- Asterix and Obelix and their puppy Idefix. Honestly, at the time, I was really into this because this old geezer in the village was married to an incredibly beautiful comic babe... Can't remember her name, but it was painful. These guys drink some kind of potion that the druid made and they could punch through an entire village of Romans. Turned into movies, theme parks, the whole shabang. I enjoyed reading this as a kid, especially the ones with the spanish kid, Soupalognon-Y-Crouton (Onion Soup with Croutons). I know, it's nuts.
- This sums Mafalda really well. Great comic from Argentina.
- Calvin & Hobbes. One of my son's and my sister's favorites.
- ok. that's enough.
